HOW DO I LEARN?

BabyCalm Baby Massage Training provides this personal training in several ways:

  • Group classes – 1 hour per week over 4 weeks
  • Private classes in your home – 90mins x 2
  • In-home small groups

These will consist of a maximum of 5 participants and babies.  Most often this will be Mum or Dad, or whoever is the primary carer of the little one.  Classes are for 1 hour a week, over 4 weeks.

BabyCalm will come to your home at a time that suits you to provide this tuition in your own space.

Because it’s just you and your infant, you will learn the same as in a group class, but over a shorter time. There will be 2 classes of 90 minutes each.

If you prefer a private class in a dedicated space other than your home, BabyCalm can provide this service.

Because it’s just you and your infant, you will learn the same as in a group class, but over a shorter time. There will be 2 classes of 90 minutes each.

We often find that a group of friends would like to learn these life-long skills together. BabyCalm can join you for an hour of instruction, 4 weeks in a row, at a place that is mutually suitable.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PREGNANT MOTHERS:

We often have families learning these skills before their baby arrives…………that way you are ready to enjoy getting to know your baby with that powerful gift already in your hands……..fabulous for baby, as well as for new parents.
BabyCalm will provide baby-sized dolls for your learning experience.

WHAT DO I BRING?

Safety for your baby is our first priority. Therefore classes will be held in a private space, where comfort for your baby can be managed. We will all sit on the floor to learn our practice (I bring cushions).

All you need to provide is exactly the same as you take anywhere you go with your baby – a towel or change mate to lie baby on the floor; a wrap to cover their little body for their comfort when needed. As a parent, you already know the usefulness of a bib or small towel to deal with anything that might present itself, so please just make sure you have something like this stashed in the nappy bag.

Anything else your baby needs, and perhaps water for yourself, should be included.Change table, toilets and a kitchen will be available for your use as required.Chairs will also be available if needed, especially for mother-to-be who cannot sit on the floor.

WHAT HAPPENS IN EACH CLASS?

All our classes are conducted with the primary focus of making the everyday more comfortable for baby and carer.  Therefore, classes will be very relaxed, but structured to ensure you are able to absorb the information provided.

Due to our focus on safety, no hot drinks or food are permitted in the area we are occupying during class…..unless, of course, it is for bub, in which case due care must be taken and consideration given for all participants.  There will be a baby-change area, toilets and access to a kitchen at the venue.

This will be our first chance to meet as a group, so we’ll be getting to know each other and your babies. A full explanation of the oils used in baby massage will be provided, along with a bottle of this organic oil which is yours to keep (and please remember to bring it to each class).

You will discover some more about the benefits of these techniques, the best time to massage baby and why we follow a specific routine.
Before you know it, you will be introducing yourself and your baby to the comfort and reassurance this gentle interaction creates, by learning the starting strokes during this session.

Rest assured, you are not meant to be proficient instantly! Your trainer will spend time with each of you individually – that’s the whole point of a very small group and our guarantee to provide individual attention.

At the end of your first class, you will be competent and confident to bring the first steps of baby massage into your everyday routine.

Today we begin by revisiting your first session, and answering any questions.

We then explore a little deeper into recognising your baby’s body language – suddenly, so many mysteries will take on a whole new meaning! Another area we discuss in detail is recognising the best times for you and your baby to share the experience of massage.

The specific strokes we learn this week will show you some of the tangible outcomes of baby massage. If your infant is experiencing colic, wind, constipation or reflux, this week’s class will be of great benefit to you.

We will also discover practical relaxation methods. These particular skills will become even more valuable as your child progresses into the toddler stage…….consider them some keys to gaining co-operation from little ones.

Bonding with your baby is also a topic we visit this week. As with so many things in life, this can be different for every mother and child…..and there are no rules……but bear in mind that your increasing infant massage skills are a significant factor in the process.

Baby massage is not limited to infants – the skills you are developing will remain with you as your child grows. Today we discuss developmental stages of your child, and some adaptations of the key strokes for growing children.

In addition, we continue to learn new techniques.
A specific baby massage technique for colic, wind and constipation is reviewed and discussed this week, along with an opportunity to share your experience of baby massage to date.

Wow, here we are at the last class already!
Today we review the full massage sequence, spend time on practising any areas you would like to review or develop further and talk over any questions you may have.

We have another massage technique to learn this week too, which is helpful for all the stages ahead.

Rest assured, if anyone ever needs a reminder of any class content, I will be contactable and very happy to assist as your wonderful new skills and experience unfold.

Evaluation – because we always want to learn from your experience and continue to offer excellent service, you will be given an evaluation form to return at your convenience.

Because new parents are sometimes sleep deprived and can be very busy with other young children, I provide a training manual as your personal reminder and to review any strokes.

However, you are very welcome to phone me, or contact via Facebook or email and discuss any concerns or for a quick reminder.

Don’t worry, you are still very welcome in the class. We all realise that babies and children have their own needs and won’t always be ready for a massage inside the class time. Even if your little one has just been fed, or has the hiccups, we advise against massage as it could make them feel very uncomfortable. There can be a variety of reasons you won’t want to practice on your baby at each class, so baby-sized dolls are available for your use.

Rest assured, you will still receive the same individual attention and instruction, and will begin building your skills and confidence rapidly.

Online banking details are provided when you enrol. Payment in full is required prior to start of Class 1.

Refunds will not be made if you choose not to continue in the class.

Genuine cancellations will be considered on a case-by-case basis by BabyCalm and will be discussed with your family privately.
