What is Baby Massage?

Baby massage is the key to releasing the strength and gentleness in your hands

You will learn specific techniques to massage your baby, which can help your baby’s development in many areas.   Here are just a few of the issues which academic research has shown benefit greatly from the one-on-one time YOU spend massaging your own child….

  • Reduces crying time
  • Reduces pain
  • Establishes regular sleep patterns
  • Improves wind, colic, constipation and reflux
  • Improves weight gain
  • Strengthens the immune system

……and there are many more, equally astonishing results you will discover…….available for you to use 24 hours a day…..the gift you hold in your hand……

Who is it for?

Infant massage is one of the oldest forms of communication between mothers/parents and babies.

In days gone by, many of us had a wider family or cultural circle to hand these skills down through the generations. Society seems to have changed, and new parents sometimes feel alone and overwhelmed…..but don’t despair…….this is a modality which will provide untold benefits to you and your child.

The skills and techniques are for any baby or young child and their parent. In some instances, we would ask that medical approval be given before massage takes place, but these situations would arise where there was already significant medical support provided for the baby.

Is this suitable for all babies?

As mentioned in ‘who is it for’, being human means there may be occasions when massage is not advised for some babies. Some of these major issues would include:

  • Cardiovascular conditions
  • Thrombosis
  • Embolism
  • Risk of contagion
  • Acute inflammation
  • Open or weeping wounds
  • Cuts or abrasions
  • Infected skin irritations
  • Preterm babies benefit enormously from infant massage, but this must be approved by the medical team before implementation

If you are unsure, please contact Marie to discuss the needs of your baby.

What about children with special needs?

Research has shown that many children with special needs benefit greatly from this type of therapy.

Some conditions are mentioned here. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact BabyCalm and discuss them, and ask any questions you need to clarify your situation. We are all about helping families and would ask that you seek medical approval if in doubt.

Who actually DOES the massage?

As a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, your BabyCalm trainer will at no time place their hands on YOUR baby.  Our role is to give you the techniques to enhance your role as a parent, and, at all times, to respect the intimacy of close personal touch.  Therefore, only YOU will massage your child.
